Introducing the First Speakers for the Research Initiative of Colombian Studies Seminar Series: Climate Change, Environment, and Water Edition

We are excited to announce the first set of speakers for our upcoming seminar series at Lund University, focusing on Climate Change, Environment, and Water. Join us for these insightful presentations from October 28th to November 15th, where we will explore cutting-edge research and innovations in water governance, climate change, and environmental resilience.


Kimberly Montañez, from the Department of Economic History at Lund University, will present her research "Hidden Waters, Visible Changes: Community Resilience in the Colombian Caribbean". In this presentation, we will delve into water governance in the Colombian Caribbean, exploring how communities adapt to changing water resources and environmental challenges.


Our second speaker, Santiago Torres, an international guest from Unisangil, Colombia, will present "Convolutional Neural Networks for the Spatio-Temporal Estimation of Turbidity with Multispectral UAV Images: Case Study of the Tocaría River, Colombia". Santiago will showcase how GIS tools and image processing can help evaluate and address water resource challenges in his case study.


Finally, Carlos Gómez, from the Department of Physical Geography at Lund University, will discuss his work "Top-down Methods for Estimating the European Carbon Budget: Towards Independent Monitoring and Verification of National Emissions". This talk will highlight the critical role of climate models in monitoring carbon emissions and understanding their impact on the environment.
